Manawatu's under-15 team have won the Central Regions Cup for the first time since 2006.
Central Region Badminton is a regional organisation with a membership of 11 associations from the lower half of the North Island - the 11 associations are Eastland, Hawke's Bay, Horowhenua-Kapiti, Hutt Valley, Manawatu, Oroua, Taranaki, Wairarapa, Wanganui, Wellington and Wellington North.
The Manawatu team battled out the final day of play in the B&M Centre, Palmerston North and won convincingly against Hawke's Bay (15-1), Wellington (16-0) and Hutt Valley (15-1).
The team members were Cameron Loughran (captain), Wei Lim, Junius Ong, Chris Varghese, Arrooran Jeyamohan, Rebecca Ye, Charlotte Stock, Amy Rogers, Nikita Taylor and Tory Claridge. The coach was Mike Newton.
Wei Lim, Ong, Nuwandi Palmada and Rebecca Ye who won medals in the recent New Zealand Aims Games.
Final standings: 1st Manawatu 1, 2nd Hutt Valley, 3rd Hawke's Bay, 4th Wellington, 5th Wellington North, 6th Wanganui, 7th Manawatu 2, 8th Taranaki.
The Manawatu Badminton Junior Development Committee for seven years has been developing a structure to nurture talent. The weekly training sessions and support from parents and volunteers has helped juniors to become some of the best in the Central Regions.
