Terrace End have displaced Northern as Manawatu's premier women's interclub side after the division 1 series finished at Ashhurst on Saturday.

Northern won last year's title, but this time they settled for third, with Terrace End dropping only two games on the way. Palmerston North were the runners-up.

For the third time, Terrace End will go to the regional playoffs, this season to be played at a Manawatu venue.

Leading the charge for Terrace End were the pair of Sheryn Blake and Sharon Groves with three wins – 25-13 over Northern, 20-13 over Johnston Park and 21-13 over Palmerston North.

Bev Budd won two of her singles, beating rep bowler Feona Sayles (Northern) 21-6, and Lyn Jensen (Johnston Park) 21-9, but losing 21-17 to Joan Ware (PN).

The Terrace End four of Fran Frith (skip), Georgi Kahui-Rogers, Maria Jones and Julia Wood beat Johnston Park 17-13, lost 18-15 to Northern and beat Palmerston North, 18-7.

Ware had a good round, also beating Jensen 21-9, and Sayles 21-17, while Sayles beat Jensen 21-9.

* Northern have their noses in front in men's division 1 with two rounds to go at Terrace End next Saturday.

The defending titleholders lead by two slender points from Palmerston North, with Terrace End also still in the hunt.

The Northern pair of Philip Skoglund Jr and Neil Gordon won all three games, as did the four of Ray Lovie (skip), Tom Palmer, Grant Davis and Barry Gush.

In the singles, Northern's Terry Johnson beat Paul Tregoweth (Terrace End) 21-11, but lost 21-20 to Barry Wynks (Takaro), and 21-16 to Palmerston North's unbeaten Ross Ellery.

Ellery also downed Wynks 21-20, and Te Kawau's Jason Moore 21-2.

The Palmerston North losses were in the fours (Steve Toms, Brian Little, Graeme Cooley and Paul Rowe) to Te Kawau and in the pairs (Pat Horgan and Eric Watson) to Johnston Park (18-15) and to Northern (19-15).

Women Final points: Terrace End 14pts + 58, PN 10 - 7, Northern 8 - 14, Johnston Park 4 - 37.

Div 2 progress points: Foxton & Beach 16 + 38, Bulls 12 + 53, Northern 1 10 + 1, PN 10 - 8.

Men Day 1 points: Northern 14 + 77, PN 12 + 31, T End 10 + 30, Takaro 10 -8, Johnston Park 4 - 37, Te Kawau 4 - 91.
