It was poetic justice for Northern bowler Liz Rossiter when she led her team to victory in the final of the women's open centre fours on the Takaro greens on Saturday.
For Rossiter and team-mate Julianne Mills, it was their first centre title when aiding Anne Corlett and Shirley Ryan to their success over Bulls.
Rossiter was hard done by four years ago when she beat Feona Sayles in the Community Trust singles final, only to find after she had won, that the event was not regarded as a centre title. Naturally Rossiter was overjoyed to have finally got her reward. "I'm very happy, especially after that disappointment in my singles win over Feona. Today our team played well to firstly beat Fran Frith (Terrace End) 21-17 and then hold it together for the final."
Bulls – Mona Melton, Shirley Keeble, Margaret Keech and Barbara Way – earned their way to the final by beating Viv Lozell's Northern four 16-15, but were always playing catchup in the final before going down 21-15 to Rossiter.
The men's final will be between Ray Lovie (Northern) and Trevor Butcher (Palmerston North).
Lovie and his four of Doug Hayward, Des Meyer and John Proctor have been in scintillating form with wins over Chris Barrett (Johnston Park) 22-5 and clubmate Martin Hammond 25-13 while they were tested by Pat Horgan's Palmerston North four in the semifinal before edging ahead 16-14.
Butcher had Eric Cairncross, Ron Henn and Paul Rowe in the other semi against Craig Gush (Northern) Cameron Nairne, Peter Lambert and Terry Johnson.
After the score was tied at 14-14 the extra end went the way of Butcher's four.
Results: Men's First round: Lovie bt Barrett 22-5, Horgan bt Wayne Mouldey (Palmerston North) 28-7, Barry Wynks (Takaro) bt Brian Looker (Terrace End) 18-3; second round, Gush bt Terry Puklowski (Johnston Park) 18-12, Butcher bt Tom Palmer (Northern) 15-14, Lovie bt Hammond 25-13, Horgan bt Wynks 15-14.
Semi final: Butcher bt Gush 15-14; Lovie bt Horgan 16-14.
