Recent winners Just A Whisper and Jungle Recipe took time honours in training at Awapuni yesterday morning, while class gallopers Manonamission and Kaapeon Way showed themselves to be making good progress.
Work was on the plough and on the outside of the course proper (dead).
Kaapeon Way and From The Spot completed an easy 800m on the plough in 53.1, the final 600m in 38.6, and they are both coming to hand nicely.
Jungle Recipe and Just A Whisper, also from the Grant Searle stable, sizzled over 800m in 50.4, the last 600 in 35.8. They are last-start winners capable of going further.
Iriodes looked solid completing 1000m in 1.7.2, the last 600 in 39.3, and stablemate Hell Yeah was allowed an easy 600m sprint in 40.2. Colonel Danske, likely to resume at Otaki tomorrow, had Wai for company over 800m in 54.2, the final 600 in 39.7.
Stablemates Hypernova and Black Mambo took 41.4 for 600m, while Estero ran the last 600m of 1000m in 37.6. Unraced Tigerman, trained by Grant Searle,returned 40.1 for 600m.
On the course proper, Argon had unraced Samsi for company over 800m in 57.2, the last 600 in 39.3. Samsi (Magic Ring-Hurricane Lil), a recent trials winner, is with Zane Robinson.
Waitaha Toa and Excess completed 1000m in 1.7.6, the last 600 in 40.2, while Platinum Princess went a leisurely 800m in 56.9 and 40.6.
Light Keeper ran clear of Alatini at the end of 1000m in 1.6.7, the final 600 in 39.2, and Wyban Angel was not timed over an easy 1000m.
Foremost (by Rossini), listed to make his debut at Otaki, returned 1.11.7 and 40.1 for 1000m, while stablemate Par Avion worked an even 800m in 53.3 and 39.8.
Superion and Irene shaped nicely over 1000m without being timed and Cracker Tee Pee and Anneraad, also with Matthew Eales, took 54.8 for 800m, the final 600 in 39.3.
Manonamission and Wotabuzz showed themselves to be in good heart with a smart 800m in 51.7, the last 600 in 37.9.
No less impressive were their stablemates Royal Spectre and La Femme Belle, who gained notice with 800m in 52.9, the last 600 in 37.7.
Cindz and Liquid Goodness went together over 800m in 58, the last 600 in 40.6, while Otaki-bound Surf Patrol had a Howbaddouwantit filly for company over 800m in 53.3 and 39.7.
Clarence finished his work with 800m in 55.2 and 40.4. He goes to the jumps day at Te Aroha on Sunday after an encouraging placing at Foxton recently.
Marea Alta, out of good mare Semper Fidelis, recorded 55.2 for 800m, the last 600 in 40.6.
Ben Braggie and Pichola galloped over 800m in 54.7 and 40.3, while a Bertolini filly and a Pyrus gelding, both with Mike Breslin shaped nicely with 800m in 52.2 and 36.8.
