Mr Mor showed he was ready for the ultimate 3210-metre test at New Plymouth on Saturday with a strong hit-out at Woodville yesterday morning.

Working on a easy No 1 grass, Mr Mor went from post-to-post and was timed 1000m in 1.7.7, the last 600 coming up in 38.5.

Mr Zatopek, likely to resume at Otaki tomorrow, worked an even 1000m in 1.9.6, the last 600 in 40.3.

Stablemate Del Balushi, a disappointment at New Plymouth last week, took 54.4 for 800m, the final 600 in 39.8. He is capable of a lot better.

One Hita Quita warmed to his work from the 1200m mark before scampering home in 36.9 for the last 600m. He looks good value at Otaki. Crosby recorded 1.11.6 for 1000m, the last 600 in 39.7, and Fresco Baldy ran her 600m in 40.8.

La Chatte Vite and Natalia completed 1000m at three-quarter pace as did Tachina, the latter being timed at 1.11.4 and 40.7. All three are engaged at Otaki.

Victory Morgan did two strong rounds on the grass, and stablemate Sahara Sunset was with him for the first lap. Victory Morgan goes to Te Aroha on Sunday.

Kape Town used the plough to complete 1000m in 1.5, the last 600 in 38.6, as did Kairanga and Our Secret Lady, whose time of 1.6.3 and 38.9 was solid.

Raptor went an easy 1200m in 1.21.3, the last 600 in 39.6, and Huhu Lass took 53.3 and 39.7 for 800m.
