My Astron and Sanriba attracted most attention when they turned in quick gallops at Hastings yesterday.
Fast work was confined to the plough (good).
My Astron was not supposed to go too fast yet still managed to cut out 600m in 35.1. The chestnut looks in good order. If he does not make the Mudgway field tomorrow he may head to Auckland next week.
His stablemate Sanriba clocked by far the fastest 800m of the morning with 47.6, coming home the last 600 in 35.6. He found the track conditions too heavy at Otaki last start and goes to Waverley next Thursday.
Last-start winner Timbuktu (r80 1600m) went very keenly over 1200m and was slowing toward the finish. He clocked 1.15.1, the first 600 in 37.1 and last 600 in 38.
Mr Archibald and a Postponed 3-year-old gelding, both in John Stenning's stable, turned in a quick 49.9 for 800m, the last 600 in 36.
Second Hope ran 1000m in 1.9.4, the last 600 in 38.6, while Tridane (r94 1400m) schooled over three hurdle fences and then galloped 800m, the last 600 taking 39.6.
Intransigent had trainer Kirsty Lawrence aboard over a quick 800m in 49.4, the last 600 in 36.2. He was formerly trained by Kevin Myers and finished last in his one and only start last season.
Skipping was kept under a hold over 800m in 57.8, the last 600 in 41.1, while The Sting was also let off with an easy 800m in 54.8 and 40.1.
Excella Bella was let run along over 800m in 48.5, the last 600 in 36.1, while Lizsky ended her work with 600m in 38.7. She is a Keeninsky 3-year-old filly in Ted Laxon's stable.
