Crossword, who is back in the Oulaghan stable after a stint up north, galloped boldly at Awapuni yesterday morning.

A majority of fast work took place on the course proper (dead) and some good times were recorded.

A Keeninsky gelding and stablemate Go Haylee were timed 800m in 51.2, the last 600 in a nice 36.9, while Chandani and a Royal Gem gelding, two more from the Searle stable, ended with 600m in 37.

Saturday's Diamond Stakes entrants at Ellerslie Fort Lincoln, ridden by Jonathan Riddell, and Distill (Robert Hannam) worked the reverse way over 1000m, the last 600 in 38. They looked superb.

Informant (Otaki) and Sir Kaspaa matched strides throughout 800m in 51.5, the last 600 in 38.5, with their stablemate Nonotnow (by Black Minnaloushe), who finished fifth on debut, taking 53.2 and 38.9.

A Scaredee Cat maiden and one by Towkay, both with Matthew Eales, covered 800m in 54.7, the last 600 in 38, and dual meeting nominee Aldebaran Star ended with 600m in 38.8, while Jungle Recipe and Maximum Gold clocked 38.9.
