Corporal Lincoln and stablemate Brackenwood, both entered for Manawatu on Saturday, could not have been more impressive in training at Awapuni yesterday morning.

All fast work was on the plough (good), where Corporal Lincoln (mdn 1300m) and Brackenwood (r85 mile) were paired over an eye-catching 800m in 48 even, the last 600 in 36.1.

Corporal Lincoln (by Fastnet Rock) was unplaced on debut in June, won a trial (1000m) in October and was unplaced when resuming at Awapuni last month. He looks a big improver.

Gold Card, now prepared by Tony Kaye, had his trainer aboard over 800m in 49.7, the last 600 in 36.3, and the gelding tackles the r75 1400m. He deserves respect on yesterday's gallop.

Sacha, in the Manawatu Cup Prelude (2000m), and Stella Bella (r65 mile) did nice work as well, being timed 800m in 50 even, the last 600 in 36.9. The latter's race rival Iamishwara ended with 600m in 37.1.

Manu (r65 1200m) and Mark Oulaghan's Zed gelding covered 1000m in 1.3.9, the last 600 in 37.2, which was a smart gallop, and Vronskii (r65 2100m) went 1.4.8 and 37.7.

Edensong and Stormy Lass, who both cleared maidens two starts ago, matched strides throughout 800m in 49.7, the last 600 in 37.3. They were nominated for Saturday's r65 1200m.

Pero and Aldebaran Star kept together over 1000m 1.4.9 and came the final 800m in 50.6, the last 600 in 37.8, while Ciron (mdn 1300m) and tomorrow's Hastings chance Lincoln's Girl (maiden 2000m) took 51 even for 800m, the last 600 in 37.5.

Eulogy Stakes entrant If I Can I Can had City Chic (r65 mile) for company over 800m in 51, the last 600 in 37.6, while Lady Platinum and Platinum Marseille required 52.2 and 37.9.

Princess Mary and Just Ishi, stablemates with Gail Temperton, were sent 800m in 52.6, the last 600 in 37.5, then Manawatu entrants Anagram (r85 mile) and Denlee (r75 1400m) clocked 1.5.1 for 1000 metres, the last 600 in 38.4.

La Danseur was timed 800m in 53 even, the last 600 in 38.4, and Our Great Empire (mdn 1300m) recorded 52.9 and 39.6. The latter's stablemate Le Brun came up with 53.7 and 39 even.

Minnaleo (r75 mile) and Set left 1000m behind in 1.5.9, the last 600 in 39.1, and their stablemates Pinot Davone (r65 mile) and Jilted went 1.6 and 39.6. Hawke's Bay runners General Lincoln and Little Drummer Boy ran 800m in 54.1, the last 600 in 39.8.

Dance In The Park (mdn f&m mile) and Citadelle came to the finish of 1000m in 1.7.2, the last 600 in 39.7, and Danced All Night took 1.8.3 and 39.4. Serene Star covered 800m in 54.4 and 39.7, with Myminkcoat and My Magician taking 54.9 and 39.9.

Wolverhampton and Like Jagger, two more in the maiden 1300m at Manawatu, were not after time with 1000m in 1.10.2, the last 600 in 40.8. Carinya went alone in 1.10.4 and 40.9.
