Feilding musicians performed well at the Manawatu Smokefree rockquest regional final at the Regent on Broadway on Saturday night.
While a three-piece band, Hydro Raspberry, from Freyberg won on the evening, second place went to singer/songwriter Annie Webster from Feilding High School. She may follow the fortunes of former Feilding band Evermore who won the national competition and have gone on to a professional career based in Australia.
The top two entrants win musical gear from NZ Rockshops and go on to compete for one of eight national finalist spots in this year's Smokefreerockquest national final in Hamilton on September 22.
At stake is a prize package that includes a NZ On Air new recording and music video grant worth over $10,000, a place on the NZ On Air Kiwi Hit Disc, musical gear to the value of $10,000 from NZ Rockshops, radio promotional support for a single, and video play on youth music channel FOUR.
Feilding High School Band, The Impedients won: Lowdown Best Song Award, for their song Kevin's OK and The Stomach future recording artists award. For more about Smokefreerockquest 2012, visit sfrq.co.nz.
