A $4.5 million winning Lotto ticket in Blenheim has been claimed by a lucky winner from the Nelson area.
Lotto New Zealand corporate communications adviser Kirsten Robinson said the "Nelson area" winner came forward on Monday but this morning her office was still in conversations with the winners and could not yet not provide any further details.
The winning ticket was bought at Countdown Blenheim on the corner of Seymour and Arthur streets.
Another Lotto player, who won $500,000 with Lotto first division, was yet to come forward, Robinson said. That winning ticket was sold at Pak 'n Save Blenheim. Robinson said the double win was very unusual, but not unheard of.
A commenter on the Marlborough Express Facebook site, Jody Ellis, said the winner came from Motueka.
The big wins come a week after Powerball was struck by a Christchurch player, who quit his job after he won $14.3m with a ticket purchased in Ashburton.
