Firefighters were called to the Cloudy Bay Business Park, near Blenheim, late this morning after a six metre container went up in flames.
Blenheim chief fire officer Rob Dalton said the container was at the back of the Wine Bottlers Marlborough property on Seafair Close.
The container was thought to hold cardboard that caught fire, Mr Dalton said.
Two appliances from Blenheim were called to the scene about 11.20am and three Blenheim Rural fire force tankers arrived after sparks were spread to the grass area by the wind, Mr Dalton said.
Principal rural fire officer Richard McNamara said the rural fire force crews were still at the scene after 1pm to make sure the fire was completely out.
''It sounds like they've got it all under control,'' Mr McNamara said.
Wine Bottlers Marlborough chief executive Lance McMillan said the building was evacuated and it was too early to tell what had caused the blaze.
