The sounds of sultry summer tunes will fill Seymour Square this weekend, with the debut of Music in the Park.

The event, from noon to 3pm on Sunday, launches a new Marlborough enterprise, called Marlborough Light Entertainment.

Organiser Glenn Kirby said the idea was adapted from London, where multi-national company Bloomberg hired a professional DJ and set up camp in an inner-city London park to entertain crowds during their lunch time.

While the event in Blenheim was much smaller, it still aimed to provide entertainment for locals, and visitors looking for something to do on Sunday afternoons, Mr Kirby said.

Seymour Square, with its clock tower, fountain and garden, was the "ultimate" place for people to relax and listen to some great music, he said.

Music in the Park, noon to 3pm, Sunday, February 7, is a free community event.

It will feature again on February 21.
