There is a little South American flavour to savour tonight in Picton.
Acclaimed Christchurch-based musician Dr Sanchez brings his brand of Latin guitar to Le Cafe.
One of the few fulltime professional performers of Spanish and South American music in New Zealand, Dr Sanchez has developed his improvisational skill on the guitar into an occupation – averaging about 260 performances a year.
He plays a mixture of traditional Mediterranean and South American songs, by artists such as Paco de Lucia, Armik, Ottmar Liebert and Santana. He also has a few original tracks to his name, which lean towards progressive beats fused with nylon string guitar, and are described as "improvised and dynamic".
For the past 10 years, Dr Sanchez has played throughout Europe and Australasia, from session work in recording studios in Sweden to street performances in Barcelona, gigs in tapas bars in Dublin, and contracts with hotel chains such as Hilton, Versace and Sheraton.
Dr Sanchez, 8.30pm, Thursday, February 4 at Le Cafe, Picton, $5 cover charge.
