Slamming drum'n'bass makes a return to Blenheim's Dolce Bar & Restaurant this Saturday night when DJ and producer Rich Gibbons, also known as Borderline, rolls into town with a swag of his favoured neuro-funk tunes.

The 26-year-old has been a stalwart of the Nelson drum'n'bass scene since 2004, when he made his first foray into the world of DJing.

Back then, he and friends were just "having a bit of", but he became "addicted", and his passion for the genre has escalated to being more than just a hobby.

He's a familiar face at Nelson's Phat Club and its outdoor events, and since late 2006 he's also forayed in the the world of production. "If it wasn't for Phat, I wouldn't be where I am."

He now has about 10 tracks signed to local and international labels like Cyanide Recordings, DSCI4, Citrus and Shadybrains.

"It's gotta have funk, otherwise it's not going to happen," he says.

Performances like those at Dolce on Saturday are a chance for him to showcase what he's been up to in the studio, putting new tracks together.

"Watching people enjoy them is the reason I make them."

Borderline, with support from Drastik Measures, Saturday night at Dolce Bar & Restaurant, 10pm to 3am, $10 on the door.
