The Marlborough Express' building in Arthur St, Blenheim, was officially opened on April 30, 1982 by the then MP for Marlborough, Doug Kidd.
The Express previously had occupied a well-known Blenheim landmark, an old brick building in High St where a real estate firm is now located.
The newspaper editorialised on the event that day and had this to say, in part: "Newspapers don't often get an opportunity to write about themselves. That is why we may be excused today as we officially open our new premises for giving ourselves a pat on the back. After all, The Marlborough Express is one of the district's longest-established and best-known institutions.
In recent years it has gone "modern", with technology if not quite to the silicon chip stage at least sufficiently advanced to place it in the forefront of the country's newspapers."
The Marlborough Express is a division of Fairfax New Zealand Ltd
