■Works by 12 artists - Emma Bass, Bridget Bidwill, Craig Bluett, Candy Clarke, Donna Cross, Fane Flaws, Lloyd Harwood, Gerda Leenards, Tusha Midgley, JS Parker, James Robinson and Julia Stevenson - are included in this year's Millennium Art Gallery fundraising exhibit, Dark Side/Light Side.

■ Characters created by Donovan Bixley for children's books written by Yvonne Morrison, Margaret Mahy, Patrick McDonald and Kyle Mewburn are showing at the Millennium Art Gallery, Blenheim, until July 27.

■ Collaborative works by five Marlborough artists, Bruce Fergus, Kim Gabara, Renate von Petersdorff, Jason Tillman and Caroline della Porta, can be viewed at the ICON Gallery and Sculpture Park, 1280 Moutere Highway, from 3pm on Saturday.

■ Christchurch artist Wayne Seyb opens his new exhibition in oils, The Forgotten Path - Return to Landscape, at the Diversion Gallery, Picton, on Tuesday, July 31. He will give a preview talk at 6pm on Monday.


■ The Nutcracker ballet by the Marlborough Dance Centre will be staged at the Floor Pride Civic Theatre at 6.30pm on Friday and Saturday, and 4pm Sunday.

Music ■ The Marlborough District Brass Band will give a pre-contest concert at 2pm on Sunday in the Marlborough Girls' College Hall, Blenheim. Tickets $20 adults, $15 seniors and $8 under-18s.

Film ■ Whalechasers is a New Zealand-made documentary about whalers in the Marlborough Sounds who joined scientists. The 7pm screenings on Friday and Saturday at the Picton Little Theatre. Tickets from Take Note Picton, email dramatrix@bigpond.com

Theatre ■ Under Milkwood by Dylan Thomas will be read by members of the Marlborough Repertory Society from 7.30pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Boathouse Theatre, Blenheim. 7pm (tickets $12.50).
