Burglaries caught on camera
Burglars have hit a Blenheim backpackers' hostel twice in two days.
The Grapevine backpackers on Park Tce was burgled between Friday night and Saturday morning, and again on Sunday morning.
Manager Hayden Lawrence said both incidents were caught on security camera, however only the offender on Sunday was identifiable.
In the first burglary, two pairs of hiking boots were stolen from the front porch. The man was caught on camera but could not be seen clearly because it was dark.
Lawrence said the items might not seem like much to some people, but to the owners of the boots it was a big loss.
"They bought a nice pair of hiking boots and then get them nicked," he said.
"It's a damn shame."
A man can be seen on security camera footage recorded on Sunday walking through the front door of the backpackers and taking a blanket and a pillow.
Lawrence did not recognise the man, and had passed the footage to police.
Extra security measures would be put in place, including the light being left on overnight to deter burglars.
Guests at the hostel had been advised to keep their personal belongings locked up.
Police were investigating the burglaries, a spokeswoman said.
