Man cave blaze contained
A ''man cave'' went up in flames in Blenheim early this morning.
Firefighters were called to a 30 square metre shed at Battys Rd, south of the intersection with Lakings Rd, just before 6am.
Blenheim deputy chief fire officer Dion Partridge said the shed, which doubled as a man cave and games room, was completely gutted.
Firefighters managed to contain the blaze but the heat from the shed spread to the main house, causing superficial damage to the weatherboard exterior, Partridge said.
No one had been in the shed at the time of the fire, he said.
About 20 volunteer firefighters and five fire trucks from Blenheim, Woodbourne and Renwick attended the blaze.
It is believed the fire started on a couch in the shed, however the cause was still being investigated, he said.
At least four men, a woman and a toddler lived on the property.
A woman, who lived in the area, said her partner called the fire brigade after he saw the flames as he was leaving for work about 5.45am.
The woman said she saw people coming out of the main house and going back inside to retrieve things.''I was yelling get out of there, the shed will go,'' she said.
The mother and her young daughter, along with other people from the house, made it out safely before firefighters arrived.
The woman believed the four men who lived at the house worked at a vineyard in Marlborough.
