Kaikoura National candidate Stuart Smith is encouraging Marlburians to turn out in force to a public meeting revealing the contents of a review of hospital services.
Smith was part of a reference group during the top of the south review of general medicine, orthopaedic and general surgery across Nelson Marlborough District Health Board hospitals.
He also spearheaded the Save Our Services Group which led a Marlborough movement opposing a suggestion to cut round-the-clock acute surgery at Wairau.
Bowing to public pressure the board shelved those plans and instigated the top of the south review.
The review released last week confirmed a commitment to 24-hour acute and elective surgical services at Wairau, but did suggest patients would have to get used to travelling between hospitals.
The review's contents will be discussed at a public meeting at Scenic Hotel Marlborough on June 18 between 5pm and 7pm.
