The Marlborough District council has a healthy operation, the Taxpayers' Union says.
Data collated by the Taxpayers' Union, a lobby group, from council reports has been turned into an online tool, ratepayersreport.co.nz, to allow residents to compare their local council with 67 territorial authorities across the country.
This data was checked by Fairfax Media, owners of the Marlborough Express, and supplied to councils for them to review prior to publication.
Taxpayers' Union executive director Jordan Williams said the Marlborough District Council was compared with similar-sized unitary councils of Nelson, Tasman and Gisborne.
"We are pleased that its performance is pretty healthy.
"Marlborough has the lowest average residential rates and the best staff to ratepayer ratio of the group.
"In general, the Marlborough District Council should be congratulated on having a healthy operation."
