Pirates, transvestites, super heroes and skeletons were among the contenders for the inaugural Kaikoura Ultimate Warrior event, held on Sunday.

The event was the brainchild of Sport Tasman co-ordinator Laura Stokes, who was keen to attract visitors to town during the quieter months as well as promote physical activity and family fun for the Kaikoura community.
