Nine Marlborough-based dancers claimed top rankings at the 2014 Highland and National Dancing New Zealand Championships held in Blenheim at the weekend.

Marlborough Dance Centre dancers Ashana Rengasamy, Rebecca Healy, Brittany Findlay, EllaRose Hammond, Grace Owen, Georgia Marshall, Isla Maples, Jessica Findlay and Shirana Rengasamy all took out top spots after competing at the Floor Pride Civic Centre over the weekend.

Dance teacher Robyn Simmonds said she was very proud of all 40 Blenheim contestants.

"It was great. I am so pleased with the girls - they danced magnificently."

It was an amazing achievement for the dancers who ranked, Simmonds said.

"They worked very, very hard."

The girls were taking the rest of the week off "to chill out and have a break" but would be back training next week to get ready for Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo next Friday, she said.

Rebecca Healy, Kelsey Smith, Grace Owen, Georgia Marshall, and Morgan Vile were chosen to be among 36 dancers from New Zealand to attend the month-long event in the UK.
