Two women and four children were lucky to escape uninjured after a head-on collision in Picton, a paramedic says.

St John Marlborough territory manager Murray Neal said the two cars collided in Waikawa Rd about 4pm on Wednesday.

A woman with three young children, from about 3 weeks to 6 years old, were in one car, while another woman and a child were in the other.

The cars were going at a "relatively slow" speed in a 50kmh zone, Neal said.

All the passengers were assessed by paramedics at the scene but no one required further medical assistance.

There was a reasonable amount of damage to both cars, Neal said.

Both families were lucky, he said.

"It shows the benefits of good seatbelts and baby seats," he said.
