Work to transform the Blenheim Railway Station into an artisan cafe can begin, with resource consent being granted.

The Marlborough District Council granted Pacific Laboratories Ltd resource consent late last month to develop a cafe and retail space in the Sinclair St building.

Four car park spaces included in the KiwiRail lease will be designated for customers and staff. The business will lease a further three spaces from the council.

Havelock man Jeremy Harris and his partner Leanne Banno took over the lease of the historic building in June. The couple plan to create a cafe and a shop selling Marlborough crafts and produce.

The KiwiRail-owned New Zealand Heritage Trust building has been vacant since renovation work in March 2012.
