Warning after cash stolen from Blenheim ATM
An opportunistic thief made off with hundreds of dollars after he stole money that had been dispensed by an ATM machine in Blenheim.
Constable Andrew Holdaway, of Blenheim, said an ANZ customer had attempted to withdraw money from the ANZ automatic teller machine on Market St about 11.30am on Friday.
He would not comment on how much money was withdrawn, but said it was in the "hundreds".
For some reason, the money did not immediately come out of the machine.
The man went inside to tell a staff member, but while he was inside, the money he withdrew came out of the machine.
A man saw the unattended cash and took it, Holdaway said.
Police are reviewing security camera footage to identify the offender. An ANZ spokesman said the situation was very rare and the customer would get a full refund.
