A Blenheim police officer was assaulted while driving a drunk woman home on Friday night.

Constable Andrew Holdaway said police were called to Biddy Kate's bar in Market St about 8pm after a 32-year-old woman refused to leave after being denied entry for being drunk.

In the police car, the woman became "incensed" at having to go home, Holdaway said. She kicked and broke the interior light and kicked the gear lever into neutral as the car was moving, then kicked the shoulder of the officer driving. He was not injured, Holdaway said.

The unemployed woman was charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. She was to appear in the Blenheim District Court yesterday.

Police arrested another 12 people at the weekend.

A 23-year-old man was arrested at 6am on Sunday for a domestic assault. He was released when sober and was to appear in court yesterday.

A 37-year-old man was arrested for assaulting a woman at a house in Koromiko. The truck driver was arrested at 1.55pm on Sunday and was held in custody to appear in court yesterday.

A 51-year-old beneficiary was arrested at a bar in Queen St, Blenheim, for disorderly behaviour. He was drunk and acted aggressively towards police, Holdaway said. He was arrested about 5.10pm on Sunday and was to appear in court yesterday.

A 19-year-old unemployed man was arrested for assaulting a man and a woman and threatening to kill them. The man was arrested at 1.45am on Saturday in Parker St. He is to appear in court on September 8.

A 22-year-old vineyard worker was arrested in Maxwell Rd for fighting. The man was arrested at 3.40am on Saturday and is to appear in court on October 1.

A 28-year-old man was arrested in Main St for fighting. He was arrested at 3.45am on Saturday and is to appear in court on October 1.

A 21-year-old unemployed man was arrested at 2.10pm on Saturday for wilful damage and breaching his police safety order. He damaged two doors on the house occupied by the protected person, Holdaway said. He was to appear in court yesterday.

A 23-year-old unemployed man was arrested for disorderly behaviour at a house in Dix Cres. He was arrested at 8.30pm on Saturday and was released when sober with a pre-charge warning.

A 23-year-old man was arrested in Seddon for common assault and wilful damage. He was arrested in Wilson St about 9.30pm on Saturday after a confrontation with another man. The 23-year-old kicked the victim and the victim's vehicle, Holdaway said. He was to appear in court yesterday.

A mother and son were arrested in Marlborough for disorderly behaviour. The unemployed 16-year-old and his 37-year-old mother were arrested in Goulter St, Seddon, about 6.30pm on Friday. The 16-year-old was charged with assaulting a female and is to appear in the Blenheim Youth Court on Thursday. His mother was given a pre-charge warning, Holdaway said.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on a probation prison recall warrant. The labourer was arrested at 8.30pm on Friday and was held in custody to appear in court yesterday.
