Police have seized thousands of dollars in cash and drugs in a raid on a Kaikoura property.

Sergeant Matt Boyce, of Kaikoura, said police raided the property on Thursday after they received information the residents were operating a commercial cannabis growing operation.

An indoor cannabis growing operation was found in a shipping container on the property. Police found 11 cannabis plants, cannabis material, and cannabis oil, Boyce said.

A neighbour said 10 police cars surrounded the Scarborough St property about 10am. At least three of the cars were there for more than five hours.

Boyce said police seized several thousand dollars in cash and drugs.

A 39-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, both of Kaikoura, have been charged with possession of cannabis for supply, cultivating cannabis, possession of a class B drug, and possession of drug utensils.

They are to appear in the Kaikoura District Court on September 26.
