Listen up ladies - Blenheim man Ryan Roselli is keeping the $5000 engagement ring he found in a unique treasure hunt last weekend in Wellington.
Mr Roselli, a 21-year-old student who now lives in Wellington, found the 0.25 carat diamond ring after the ring's owner Anthony Gardiner posted clues to its whereabouts via Twitter last Saturday.
Mr Gardiner, 29, was giving the ring away after his girlfriend turned down his proposal.
Mr Roselli, who is in his fourth year of architecture school in Wellington, saw a link to the Twitter page via the Grabaseat website.
He spent from 8am to 3pm on Saturday following Mr Gardiner's cryptic messages, finally finishing up near the helipad at Wellington's waterfront. Mr Roselli was aided by friends Karl Fitzpatrick, Hannah France, and Thom Ibbotson who were looking at maps back at his flat, and feeding him clues.
Mr Roselli said yesterday he would keep the ring. His mum did not wear white gold, he said, and although the ring was valued at $5000, jewellery shops were offering only $2500 to $3000 for it.
Keeping it may just save a bit of money down the track should someone special come along, he said.
