Firms recognised

Two Marlborough firms have been honoured in the 2009 Deloitte Fast 50. Cloudy Bay Business Park contract winemaking facility Indevin came in as the 32nd fastest-growing company in New Zealand, while Blind River Wines won the award for the fastest-growing retail or consumer products business in the Canterbury and upper South Island. Between the 2007 to 2009 financial year period, Indevin's revenue grew 207.44 per cent, the results said. Dunedin's New Zealand Honey Company topped the ninth edition of the annual index, which names New Zealand's 50 fastest-growing companies. Results were announced on October 28.

Village's top rating

Queen Charlotte Sound's Mistletoe Bay Eco Village has received the top Qualmark Enviro-Gold four-star-plus tourism rating. To gain the rating, the village was assessed on its initiatives for energy, waste, water, conservation and community. Mistletoe Bay Trust chairman Simon Heath said the village was given the grade about two weeks ago. Village managers Chris and Julia Knowles had put in a lot of hard work for it, he said. Qualmark is the country's official tourism quality agency and is a partnership between Tourism New Zealand and the New Zealand Automobile Association. The village, which officially opened last June, promotes nature preservation and sustainable living through a range of eco-friendly accommodation.

Organics finalist

Marlborough's Seresin Estate winery has been named as a finalist in Organics Aotearoa New Zealand's (OANZ) 2009 Organic Awards. The winery is one of two finalists in the organic producer of the year award. The firm's estate manager, Colin Ross, is also a finalist for the Jon Manhire award for outstanding contribution to the organic sector. The awards recognise leading organisations and individuals from the organic sector. Winners will be announced at OANZ's Organic Sector Conference in Hamilton on Saturday.

Cafe up for sale

Central Blenheim cafe The Living Room is on the market. Co-owner David Lloyd said he and his partner Leanne put the business up for sale about a month ago. He said Mrs Lloyd, who was the cafe's chef, was looking to focus on completing a half-finished business studies and accountancy degree by correspondence. His attentions would be focused on building a house for them. The Lloyds have owned the cafe for about 3 1/2 years and would carry on with it if they did not find a buyer.
