Family violence, alcohol and drugs and "gang girls" will be discussed at the annual Marlborough Violence Intervention Project Initiative (MVIP) strategies conference, which starts in Blenheim tomorrow.
The two-day conference will feature speakers such as Jude Simpson and Tremaine Mikaere, both victims of family violence, as well as Family Court Judge Peter Boshier, Women's Refuge national chief executive Heather Henare and National Family Violence co-ordinator Inspector Ged Byers.
Police senior sergeant Ross Lienert, who is the Tasman Marlborough Family Violence co-ordinator, will also be involved in running workshops.
More than 90 people are attending the conference from the top of the south region and the rest of New Zealand.
Spokesperson and Marlborough Women's Refuge manager Rachel Black said the aim was for police, district health boards, Woman's Refuge, Barnardos, the Ministry of Social Development and non-government organisations to build on relationships, and to share knowledge and experiences.
The conference will be at St Mary's Parish Hall in Hodson St.
