Woman injured after crashing on to rocks

A woman had to be cut free from her car by firefighters after it crashed on to rocks in Kaikoura yesterday.
Kaikoura emergency services were called to the crash along the Esplanade about 11.20am after the car left the road and ended up on rocks on the beach below.
The car had been travelling along the Esplanade towards Avoca St when it hit a pole before veering off the road.
The driver, a 41-year-old Kaikoura woman, was the only occupant in the car.
She sustained a back injury and had to be cut from the car by the Kaikoura Volunteer Fire Brigade and stretchered to a waiting Kaikoura St John ambulance.
Kaikoura police said it was likely that driver inattention had contributed to the crash.
