Online results ease anxieties

Jared Buckley wasn't too stressed about his National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) results.
The Marlborough Boys' College Dux had already passed NCEA Level 3 with an excellence endorsement before he even sat his end of year examinations.
To gain an excellence endorsement, a student must achieve 50 excellence credits. For a merit endorsement, 50 merit or excellence credits are required.
But some of the secondary school students would have been nervous wrecks yesterday as they waited for their results to become available.
In today's digital age, the internet trumped the postal service – the results were posted on Wednesday and by last night still had not arrived in some Marlborough mailboxes. Many local students instead soothed their nerves by checking the New Zealand Qualifications Authority website when the results were posted online yesterday afternoon.
Jared checked his results as well and was happy with how his exams went.
He said he had passed Levels 1 and 2 with merit endorsements and last year he had decided to "try do one better" and pass Level 3 with excellence.
"It helps to push you through the year."
He believed the excellence endorsement helped him get into the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology Broadcasting School, where he will be studying a Bachelor of Broadcasting majoring in digital film production. "It's probably going to be more important for people when going for jobs and special courses at university."
Jared said photography was the hardest subject this year, but also the most fun.
Now he has to wait for the post before he can physically hold his results. New Zealand Scholarship results will be delivered in mid-February, and the marked test papers will be returned to students from January 18.
NATIONAL RESULTS: Level One: 50,236 students – 23 per cent gained merit endorsements, 6 per cent gained excellence. Level Two: 41,710 students – 17 per cent gained merit, 5 per cent gained excellence. Level Three: 22,520 students – 21 per cent gained merit, 5 per cent gained excellence. University Entrance: 20,454 students.
