Revellers at this weekend's Marlborough Wine Festival are being challenged to dress to thrill to win some prizes.
In the annual Thomas's Fashion in the Vines competition, the best dressed man or woman will win the biggest prize offered at the festival.
Festival committee member Kathy Hughes said it was a great opportunity to dress up, while enjoying a day of fabulous food and wine.
She said there were some fantastic prizes up for grabs at Saturday's festival at Montana's Brancott Estate.
The competition's grand prize is a $2000 House of Travel voucher. The best dressed male will win a new Rembrandt suit valued at $700, a voucher for a haircut at Urban Hair Design and Redken Hair product, while the best-dressed female will win two tickets to the World of WearableArt Awards 2010, a mixed case of premium Marlborough wine, a haircut at Urban Hair Design and Redken Hair products.
The male and female runner-ups will each receive a haircut and hair products, with the male also winning a helicopter flight around the festival and the female a pair of Kathryn Wilson shoes.
Thomas's director Tim Thomas said people could enter in whatever they liked – "an outfit you would see at the Melbourne Cup, an original design or something you have just thrown together".
He said it was about having fun with fashion.
"We would encourage people to get dressed up and come and have some fun."
Judges would take into account the style, originality and appropriateness of the outfit and accessories for the festival, its suitability for the individual and grooming.
The judges are Kathryn Wilson, the designer behind the Caroline Sills fashion house and Kathryn Wilson shoes, and fashion-conscious locals Lynnette Hammond and Rosemary Sutton.
Mr Thomas said there weren't many chances to dress up for festivals in Marlborough, so now was the chance.
People were encouraged to enter before the festival, but they could register on the day at 11.30am at the main office.
A preliminary judging will take place out of public view at noon.
The contestants will line up on stage at 12.30pm, with the finalists asked to step forward.
The competition is free to enter, and is open to anyone over the age of 18.
