Marlborough is hosting the Rural Women New Zealand Top of the South regional meeting in Blenheim tomorrow.

Members from Nelson, Marlborough, Golden Bay, Buller and the West Coast will discuss rural and community issues including freedom camping, rural health and education, and the rural environment.

Top of the South regional councillor Liz Evans said the meeting would include a presentation by chef Chris Fortune on the Slow Food Movement at 10am and a regional contest to find a representative for the RWNZ national speech competition to be held at May's national conference in Oamaru.

A range of remits would also be up for preliminary discussion at the meeting before they are debated at the RWNZ national conference in Oamaru.

Remit topics include: whether or not agriculture should continue to be part of the Emissions Trading Scheme, the need to reinstate a Minister of Rural Affairs, that a fairer system of ACC be developed similar to the insurance policy whereby levies are reduced if there are no claims, and that the process of collecting traffic fines from overseas visitors be improved so tourists cannot leave New Zealand without paying them.

The meeting runs from 9am to 4.30pm at the Nativity Centre, entry is free, non members are welcome.
