Nan Cunniffe is turning 86 today, and she will be celebrating with her favourite gym.

Curves Blenheim has passed its one-year milestone under new ownership after it was re-opened by gym member Toni Brooks.

Mrs Cunniffe was devastated when Curves Gym closed down, her Sydney-based daughter Barbara Zaman said.

"She rang me in distress saying Curves had closed down, she was so happy when it reopened."

Mrs Cunniffe has been an enthusiastic gym user since 2007 and works out for 30 minutes three times a week.

"It keeps my old bones from seizing up." She was introduced to Curves by daughter Lyn Gare, who lived in Nelson.

Mrs Cunniffe had tried a different gym in the month that Curves was closed, but said it wasn't for her.

"The Curves equipment suits anybody of any age."
