Nominations for the TrustPower Marlborough Community Awards open on Monday.

The awards, run in conjunction with the Marlborough District Council, are open to all voluntary groups and organisations working to make the Marlborough district a better place to live, said TrustPower community relations co-ordinator Pip Tschudin.

More than $5000 is up for grabs.

Anyone can make nominations for the awards, and groups can nominate a voluntary group or themselves.

The awards cover five categories: heritage and environment; health and wellbeing; arts and culture; sport and leisure; and educational and child-youth development. Category winners receive $500, runners-up receive $250 and the supreme winner takes home $1500 and an all-expenses paid trip to the finals in the Tauranga and Western Bay of Plenty region next March.

Nomination forms are available from the council offices or by phoning Ms Tschudin, 0800871111.

Forms can also be downloaded from the TrustPower website or they can be completed online at trustpower.co.nz/communityawards

Nominations close on Friday, October 1, and the local winners will be announced and presented at a function in mid-November.
