Floating candles on the Taylor River in the centre of Blenheim next Friday night will mark the anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima in 1945.
People are invited to bring their own candle lantern to float along the river from the amphitheatre alongside the Raupo Riverside Cafe.
Marlborough Mayor Alistair Sowman will speak, as will Marlborough Girls' College students who have been to Hiroshima.
Mr Sowman is one of 14 New Zealand Mayors for Peace, an international network of more than 1500 cities established by the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, in Japan. Mayors for Peace has called on governments to eliminate nucleur arsenals and stop the development of nuclear weapons by 2020.
The commemoration, organised by the Marlborough Peace Group, begins at 5.30pm. The contact is Pam Nicholls on 5780094 or 0275551664.
