It's sibling rivalry, there can be only one winner and one contender has already hedged his bets.

At the Tussle for the Table competition, part of the Brew NZ convention in Wellington on Tuesday, Moa Brewery director Josh Scott will pit his original ale against a bubbly from his family wine label Allan Scott, represented by his sister, Victoria Scott.

The Tussle for the Table competition will judge whether seven beers will better complement seven courses than the wines they are challenged with.

Each diner at the event is given a glass of both during each course and can vote on which is best for the dish. The Scotts are battling it out over the first course, but do not know what it will be.

Mr Scott said the Allan Scott Les Joues Rouge rose bubbly had an advantage "because bubbly goes with everything".

Ms Scott said her brother was already trying to make excuses.

Mr Scott said Moa's philosophy was a winemaker's take on beer, so it was an interesting pairing to start the event.

Another Marlborough beverage featuring at the event is Soren Eriksen's No8 Wired made at Renaissance Brewing.

Perhaps Victoria might win now that Josh is offending the gay community (edited) http://www.gaynz.com/articles/publish/2/article_9668.php
