Raising her daughter in a big city was never an option for one of Marlborough's newest Kiwi citizens.
Swedish-Kiwi Anna Spinks was one of six people from around the world to be nationalised at a citizenship ceremony at the Marlborough District Council chambers yesterday.
Mrs Spinks met her New Zealand husband, Paul, in London and the couple moved to Blenheim seven years ago to raise their daughter, Amelie.
New Zealand was a good country to raise children, Mrs Spinks said.
The family travel to Sweden every year so Amelie can be in contact with her Swedish relatives and master the language.
Mrs Spinks said the ceremony was a special occasion, even though she had been here for some time. "My daughter is a New Zealander and Swedish and it is special to me that I am now as well."
Others from Marlborough who became New Zealand citizens yesterday: Tyrone Burney, British; Gina Burney, British; Lydia Burney, British,; Gwendolyn Burney, British; Surinder Singh, Indian; Siliva Totau, Tongan; Matthew Griffiths, British.
