A power pole at French Pass caught fire on Friday night, cutting power to French Pass and D'Urville Island at about 7.30pm on Friday.
Marlborough Lines operations manager Brian Tapp said a crossarm came unbolted and tilted, causing a live wire to touch the pole which caught fire.
Electricity was restored to most customers by 11.30pm but those at French Pass and on D'Urville Island had to wait until 1.25pm on Saturday, Mr Tapp said.
