Marlborough-Nelson residents made more than 2700 calls asking for Healthline advice in the January to March 2012 quarter, about 3 percent of all calls the service received.
The free phone for health advice – 0800 611116 – is funded by the Ministry of Health.
It answers all those questions, like "it's just a bad rash and it might clear up"; "maybe my child just has an awful cold and will stop coughing by morning"; "perhaps if I lie down for a while, my headache will ease" and "let's wait it out and call the doctor tomorrow".
Healthline receives an average of 1000 calls every day from across the country. Calls are answered by registered nurses.
