Eltham Rd enquiry continues

The 30-year-old woman who was sexually assaulted on Eltham Rd on Thursday night talked to a man on the street moments before her attack, police say.

Blenheim CIB head Detective Sergeant Dave Woodley also said the attack shortly before midnight had been interrupted by a car going past.

Police are keen to speak to the man spoken to by the woman and to the people in the car that drove past, Mr Woodley said.

Police hope these people will have information that will help the inquiry.

The woman was attacked on Eltham Rd, between Rogers St and Stratford St, just before midnight on Thursday.

A stretch of footpatyh and several houses on Eltham Rd were cordoned off by police early on Friday morning after the attack as they investigated the woman's complaint and a police guard was posted at the cordon.

Police would still like to hear from anyone else in the streets at the time of the attack who might have heard or seen something.

It is less than eight months since a 50-year-old woman was sexually violated in her Eltham Rd home.

Samuel Wiremu John Edmonds, 28, admitted that attacked and was sentenced to seven years' jail on two charges of sexual violation and one of burglary.

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to contact Blenheim CIB on 03 578 5279.
