Former Marlborough Express editor Henry (Harry) Turvey has died aged 90.

Mr Turvey started working for the Express in June 1953.

He was for several years chief reporter, then news editor and later assistant editor and leader writer.

He was appointed editor on April 1, 1977, a post he retained until 1980 when, nearing retirement age, he became associate editor to David Wilson.

He retired on December 31, 1984, although he returned to work part time to write for the Saturday Express for a few months in 1985.

He had been living at Ashwood Park Retirement Village, and died surrounded by his family on Sunday.
