Half a million dollars won on a Lotto ticket bought in Blenheim has been claimed.

Redwood Lotto in Blenheim has a winning first division Lotto sign on display for the sixth time since it opened in 1987, after a Marlborough ticket won $500,000 on Saturday.

The winning buyer, who shared the $1 million first division prize with a ticket-holder in Auckland, bought it at the store in Cleghorn St.

Owner Peter Matthews cannot reveal any details about the ticket buyer.

"I can say it has been claimed, but I can't say when or who, because they want to remain anonymous," Mr Matthews said.

It was exciting to sell the winning ticket, especially for the sixth time, he said.

"We're definitely a lucky shop."

The shop's previous first division win went to a person from Blenheim in 2008, but the biggest win was in 1997, Mr Matthews said. That winning ticket was worth $1.5 million, but it was never claimed.

"It was national news at the time, but no-one ever came forward," Mr Matthews said. "They had a whole year to claim it, but that mystery was never solved."

NZ Lotteries communications co-ordinator Hanna Kilpin said the first division ticket sold in Blenheim had been presented at a Lotto outlet and was being processed. The winners did not have go to Wellington to claim their prize.

Another ticket buyer in Marlborough won $23,033 on Saturday as one of the 12 second division winners. That ticket was bought online through My Lotto.

Ms Kilpin said she did not know whether the prize had been claimed yet.
