Marlborough District Council chief executive Andrew Besley has retained his job.
Mayor Alistair Sowman said yesterday that Marlborough District councillors had reappointed Mr Besley for a further three years.
Mr Besley has been council chief executive for the past 12 years. The Local Government Act requires that the job must be advertised at least every seven years, and Mr Besley reapplied.
Mr Sowman says the role was publicly advertised nationwide and several applications were received. Councillors met yesterday to consider the applications.
He said that given Mr Besley's skills and experience, it was not a difficult decision for councillors to make.
"Andrew Besley is one of the most experienced council chief executives in the country and his management and administrations skills are widely recognised within local government circles."
The three-year extension runs from December this year.
