The new principal of Rai Valley Area School executed a veritable Coast to Coast in moving to Marlborough.
She shifted with her husband from Hari Hari in the southern part of the coast to her new home in Marlborough two weeks ago.
Angela Sloane, who left her post as principal of South Westland Area School after 12 years, took over from interim head Tony Draaijer yesterday at the start of term three.
Mrs Sloane said she had been drawn to the job, Marlborough's good weather - aside from the flooding around Canvastown and Wakamarina Valley at the weekend - and the opportunity to be closer to Richmond, where she grew up.
Although it was early days, she aimed to pinpoint issues and areas of the school that could be improved.
"I'm really looking forward to beginning the role and getting to know the students and the community."
Rai Valley Area School has been through turmoil in recent years with principal Muff Newton resigning in November last year after extended sick leave.
Mr Draaijer was then appointed.
The school has been governed by a commissioner since March 2011.
