Sex offender seeks further name suppression

A Picton man sent to prison for historic sexual offending against a teenage girl is seeking further name suppression.

The man pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual connection with someone under 16, and eight counts of indecent assault, dating from 2005 when the girl was 15.

He was sentenced to three years and six months' in prison when he appeared in the Blenheim District Court on Tuesday.

Judge David Ruth said at the sentencing the grounds presented for permanent name suppression were not adequate.

However, the man was granted interim suppression, in case he wanted to appeal that decision.

On Friday, a court registrar said an application to appeal had been filed.
