Residents of Waterlea Rest Home in Blenheim showed off their talents yesterday at a craft show for friends and families.

Beryl Gifford, 80, had a shawl made from wool which she spun herself. Miss Gifford has lived in Rapaura her whole life, and has always been interested in things to do with the farm, she said.

She used to paint in an army hut at her home in Hammerichs Rd. "I was a bit selfish if I think about it - I left mum to garden while I painted."

Another resident, Geoff Corbett, made an electric steel guitar in his late teens while he was a cabinet-maker's apprentice.

His wife of 49 years, Daphne Corbett, says Mr Corbett later learnt to play the ukulele when he was an adult and although he no longer plays, he still loves music.
