Marlborough Girls' College choir Bella Voce were awarded a bronze medal in the 2012 Big Sing Finale in Wellington during the weekend.
Bella Voce soprano section leader Olivia Sheat said the choir performed well and had a good time despite not placing higher.
"We had an amazing experience going over there and getting to meet hundreds of other like-minded people from around the country who share a passion for music," Olivia said.
Choir master Robin Randall, who has directed the choir for 10 years, said it had continued to improve since he began. "Over the last five years they've been selected for the finale every year and that is almost unheard of."
He was "over the moon" with the competition performances and said he received many comments during the three days about how good the girls sounded.
"They were initially disappointed but they have a steely determination to come back and do better next year," he said.
Marlborough Girls' was one of four schools awarded bronze. Christchurch's Burnside High School choir Bel Canto took top place with the Platinum award.
