Car pulls out in front of truck
A Blenheim man had a close call on Monday when a car pulled out in front of him in the 100 kilometre zone in Middle Renwick Rd and forced him in to the wrong lane.
Regan Harris, 35, said he was driving towards Blenheim in his Holden Rodeo work truck and had just passed Blenheim Airport about 4pm when a man came out of Jacksons Rd right in front of him.
"He went straight through the intersection, didn't stop and just carried on towards Renwick," Mr Harris said.
"I was very, very lucky."
He went to swerve around in front of the car, thinking the driver would stop, but Mr Harris had to slam on his brakes and struggle to control the skid.
"I lifted my foot off and went shooting in to the wrong lane into the line of another car," he said.
The oncoming car managed to swerve and avoid him but Mr Harris' truck came to a stop on the verge on the opposite side of the road.
"Going from 100km to a dead stop, it wrecked the clutch."
He did not see the registration number of the car that pulled out of Jacksons Rd and is keen for anyone who may have seen the incident to go to the police.
"That man should not be on the road," he said.
"That's basic driving skills. He shouldn't be behind the wheel."
